Weekly Post Processing Challenge 12th May 2018

Thanks to Michael and Glenn for the last two challenges.

We need someone to post next week, please give it a go. Upload a High resolution jpeg. Just indicate by Wednesday next in this thread if you are willing to try.

 

Remember there are no rules you can do what you wish in your interpretation, please can you give information of the steps taken and software used to add interest.

 

It is not meant as a competition just a bit of fun.

Good choice, GC. Initially, in PSE15 slight crop from top and right side. Then, levels adjustments. Further tonal adjustments using curves and low key filter in Color Efex. Returned to PSE to use the dodging tool to lighten the boat's white areas. Finally, used the Output Sharpener.

LR...adjust shadows and highlights. Crop from right side. NIK...Detail Extractor and Tonal Contrast. PSE...Cutout filter

PSE 14, crop, convert to B&W, haze reduction, levels, clone out ropes, brightness & shadows, dodge tool to highlight boat.

 

Nice image to work with GC. I added some room to the left of the foreground boat by cloning in CS5. I wanted the boat to stand out from the background, so I selected the boat and increased it's brightness, contrast and sharpening. I then selected the inverse and used Topaz Simplify to simplify details and give the background a more painterly look. (Simplify also helps to obscure some clumsy cloning to the left of the boat).

Mostly manipulating selective color or curves layers often with Chanel pulls, blend-if, luminosity masks or gradient. Brief trip into LAB with PPW Man from Mars.

Adjusted lighting and tonal contrast in Color Efex and Viveza. Created a B&W version, further adjusting contrast etc. and applied it as luminosity. Cropped. Each step used masking.

 

 

I decided to do a b&w version as well. First, cropped from right edge in PSE. Conversion and adjustments in Silver Efex.
