You are invited to upload one or more of your landscape photos and, if you’d like, to accompany your image with some commentary: challenges you faced in making the image? your intent for the image? settings? post-processing decisions? why you did what you did? the place and time? or an aspect you’d like feedback on? And please feel free to ask questions of others who have posted images or to join the discussion. If you don’t feel like using words, that’s OK too—unaccompanied images (or unaccompanied words, for that matter) are also very much welcomed. As for the technicalities, the usual forum guidelines apply: files < 1 MB; image size <1000 px maximum dimension.

I gave myself a challenge this time. I rate my images from 1 to 5 stars in Lightroom, and I usually then ignore any rated lower than 4. This time, I decided to select a 2-star image and try to turn it into something I liked. Here's the result, accomplished primarily by cropping, adjusting the tone curve, modifying the exposure and contrast (with brushes, gradients, and globally), and some cloning in the upper right corner. So here's another contribution for the Mudflat Appreciation Society:

And here's the original (this is a jpg of the unedited raw file):

Leslie, although your logic makes sense, if this were my photo, I'd crop just from the top to the point the dark horizontal is eliminated. Just a bit of feedback from someone who lacks your ability for the most part.

Hey, Leslie, your selection this week sent me down the rabbit hole. I spent years photographing wetlands, mudflats, and wetlands that became mudflats at low tide. Here's one from 2008. I am also a long time dues-paying member of the Mudflat Appreciation Society.

An old steel fishing boat beached near my cabin. Originally shot on B&W film with a No. 1 Pocket Kodak Jr., the straight image was kinda dull. So, I applied some creative filter effects and added vignetting to give it an aged look befitting the subject matter and the camera used.
