You are invited to upload one or more of your landscape photos and, if you’d like, to accompany your image with some commentary: challenges you faced in making the image? your intent for the image? settings? post-processing decisions? why you did what you did? the place and time? or an aspect you’d like feedback on? And please feel free to ask questions of others who have posted images or to join the discussion. If you don’t feel like using words, that’s OK too—unaccompanied images (or unaccompanied words, for that matter) are also very much welcomed. As for the technicalities, the usual forum guidelines apply: files < 1 MB; image size <1000 px maximum dimension.

This waterfall south of Trinidad, CA, is accessible only at low tide, and even then my boots got overtopped by a particularly high wave. I’d tried photographing it from many angles, but I ended up liking this view best because it restricted the color scheme and because it played up the pattern of the flow along the base of the cliff. I’d tried some slower shutter speeds—1/15 worked well for the fall, but it took away the definition in the foreground ripples, so I went with 1/80, f/13, ISO 200 (18 mm lens). In post, I adjusted black and white points, upped the exposure a half stop, reduced highlights, opened shadows, and increased clarity.

Late to the party, but this is from a couple years ago, just east of Cyprus Hills park.

Nothing special in processing or intent; just drivin' down the road and like what I saw.

(ps. I indulged in a 4' wide print from the local drug store)
