You are invited to upload one or more of your landscape photos and, if you’d like, to accompany your image with some commentary: challenges you faced in making the image? your intent for the image? settings? post-processing decisions? why you did what you did? the place and time? or an aspect you’d like feedback on? And please feel free to ask questions of others who have posted images or to join the discussion. If you don’t feel like using words, that’s OK too—unaccompanied images (or unaccompanied words, for that matter) are also very much welcomed. As for the technicalities, the usual forum guidelines apply: files < 1 MB; image size <1000 px maximum dimension.

Cautionary tale, revisited: remember to back up your .psd files on a different drive if you access Photoshop from Lightroom and automatically save the edited files to the same folder as the raw files. I only lost a few, and I figure it's a good opportunity to rethink some of my edits.

Anyway, I was back at the coastal dunes this week, and this time I was there a bit later in the day than I usually aim for. The light was flatter, and the visible contrast in the foreground is due in part to differences in sand-grain composition. Heavier dark minerals were on the low-angle stoss sides, while the lighter quartz and feldspar grains made up the leeward faces.

Layer cake. A mixture of cream and biscuit

I was trying to capture the different layers in this landscape but I didn’t want too much detail in each layer or the detail in each layer to be predictable. Just like the perfect cake......."

Black, volcanic sand in Iceland, never far from a volcano, in 2017. This beach faces the open North Atlantic, where the tides and waves can be impressive at times. I found a YouTube site which showed surfing on this beach, well suited up of course.
