Hi, I recently started my new website, it is very basic still, and now I need a better host then the one I currently have. Could you please suggest a good host, ideally one with software that is photographer friendly. Thanks in advance, Theodore Muran

P.s. Here is my current website, I want to change it to flash using a template soon.

Hi Theodore,
I use and recommend Host Monster, they have a reliable support and their down time is insignificant, if you are looking just to host your basics without any data base solution their basic plan may suffice your needs.
They, as many others, have a control panel that allows you to even manage your files with little to no need of FTP programs, that may become handy when you are on the road and want to update your site in a flash.
If you are looking for a more photographer friendly offers, take a look at Hosting Photography, they seem to offer a series of services photography related that you might like it in a future on your website.
Photo Biz is a great option if you just want to upload images and have also photography alike services available to your clients and a great looking portfolio.
Another very good solution would be Live Books, they have sharp designs and offer different packages.
These were my 50 cents, I hope it helped.

Good luck,

Theodore, To me a photographer-friendly host is one offering unlimited storage and bandwidth, along with the usual free add-ons most seem to be offering. For that expect to pay no more than $100/year. Hosting has become a commodity so shop around. I'd also suggest you find a template on your own rather than one supplied by your host; that way if you and the host part company some day you won't have to start all over again.

Find out what you need and based on that look for hosts that suits your need (and more). Then, go to www.webhostingtalk.com and type in your chosen hosts into the search box. Most likely you'll find some threads on them. Read and decide if the host company's good or bad.

For what you need you just need a Linux server.

Also, if possible, go with a company where it allows you to pay monthly. This way you can try them out for a few months and if things are great stay and if not, you're not tied in. Hosting companies go up and down.

All that aside, I've been with hostgator for three years I think. Been happy with them and I've only had a few downtimes that I know of and I'm online a lot, either checking emails or updating my blog. There are a couple others I'd go with if I need a new company now but so far hostgator's been good to me.

Good luck!!
