Hi everyone.

Web pages these days play a large part in your business. The majority of my work comes from my web page and if it doesn’t come from there it certainly is used as a showcase of your work. Therefore having the best possible web site is critical.

I have designed and manage my own site. Having used Yola to create the site and Smugmug for my photo gallery. Have a look and let me know what you think of the results, good or bad. My Web Site.

What I would like from this discussion is anything to do with web sites in your photography business. Have you found one thing works better than any other. Have you any secrets to share with the rest off us. Have you discovered a better way to get a better ranking with search engines without using third party software and with.

Is there any other sites that you can recommened to others that you use for your own web site or to display your photos.

Anything anyone can share is very welcome.

Thank you
John

John:

There's a web site creation forum: http://www.photo.net/website-creation-forum/

Just had a quick look at your site and there's one thing missing. Photographs! For a photography website there aren't many photographs to look at aside from the galleries. I think you'd do well to include photos in the rest of the pages as well. Only the Smugmug app and that loads photos pretty darn slow. I think you'd be better off with a few select, strong images scattered among your pages.

On the plus side, your site loads quickly. There's no music (which is a huge plus!), and the site is clean and fairly easy to read.

For me, my site is a big photo gallery with a good search function. My target audience is different from yours (I shoot editorial stock) and my clients like to be able to locate specific content quickly, and easily share images with authors, editors etc. I'm rebuilding my site currently and the new version will have fewer pages although the gallery will pretty much stay the way it is.

Thanks Mikael,

I see my post has been moved to the Website-creation forum. Should have had a closer look before posting. Will keep an eye on this forum as well as reading all the old posts to see if there is anything that I can learn and use on my page.

Thank you for your feedback. I have tried to keep the page simple to allow for fast loading even with people who have dial up will be able to load my home page without to much trouble. Interesting that you have mentioned that the smugmug app is slow to load, i have checked this out on at least three different sites within New Zealand and none have presented this problem. Will try and check this further.

had a look at your site and note that most of your photos are on your gallery page as well. I take on board what you say about more photos on the site. Will check out the Smugmug app first as personally I prefer to try and keep everything clean.

Thanks
John
