james phillips
I have never in real life seen a Platinum or Palladium print. For this reason I would like to purchase from somebody from this site a print of this nature. To be candid I am not intending to spend a great deal of money nor do I intend to display my purchase. I am simply curious to see the quality a well-made print exhibits when done using either of these methods. Should you wish to consider my offer to purchase as a simple request in my continuing education process, I would be grateful. The size and the subject of the print will be solely dependant upon the artists recommendation. I am simply interested in seeing a well-made print (or perhaps two) that clearly demonstrates the ability of this medium to reach well beyond the normal density range of a standard print. For this privilege I am willing to compensate the printer with a reasonable sum of money. For those of you who are curious as why I simply do not go to an art gallery and look as a print, it is because there is not one that I know of within a reasonable days travel of where I live. I hope that I have explained myself properly regarding this request and have not offended anybody by posting a wish to buy. If I have broken protocol then I ask that the forum maintainers remove this post. Kind Regards,

ken_miller4
GW: if you wish to purchase one locally, or just look at one, contact Pat Kornak in Calgary. His website is <a href='http://www.kornakph.com'>here</a>. He gave a demonstration of Platinum/Palladium printing at The Camera Store about a year ago. Pretty cool stuff. <p> Hope that helps. <p> -klm.
igor_johanson
Ken, no Pt-Pd prints on the Kornak site you referred to. And his pictures are purely commercial, rather uninspiring. There are great examples of Pt-Pd images on the internet, but do not have the link at hand.
wayne_firth3
Some of the best platinum/palladium photographs are made by Kerik Kouklis. His site is http://www.kerik.com/
ken_miller4
I only pointed GW at Pat's site as a method of contact, not as a source of Pt/Pd prints....sorry if I wasn't clear on that point.
chad_jarvis1
I'm more curious why you just don't make your own.

james phillips
Thanks to everybody for the replies both on and off line. This weekend when time permits Ill be contacting those that were so generous to offer to help. That indeed is what makes this forum so greatall the photographers who understand what it is like to explore a new avenue and being unsure as to how to begin. In regards to Chads question as to why I do not make my own the answer is relatively simple. I presently already have too many irons in the fire with the teaching of a photography course, my own self development in photography and normal day to day responsibilities. Someday I am hoping to make the leap to an 8x10 camera and then eventually to platinum/palladium printing. Unfortunately I do not have the opportunity to travel that much at this time in my life so that the exposure I have had to fine quality prints is limited. As most folks are aware, reprints in books really do not do justice to these fine prints and as such I wish to have a few by which I can judge my printing skills by. As my photographic interests continue to develop and my appreciation in fine prints continues to improve, I hope someday to purchase a few fine quality prints for display and comparison of my work for my home. Thanks again for all of the thoughtful replies.
william_blunt
Not only do reproductions fall short of quality in a platinum/palladium print but original photos in galleries and museums are usually framed behind glass or plexiglass which degrades the quality. Several years ago I visited the Platinum Gallery in Santa Fe which had most works framed without glass or plexiglass, wonderful! Not the norm but wonderful.
