gloria_hopkins
Hey all, thought I would let you know that Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, FL is HOPPING with birds right now. I see inquiries every now and again and thought I would post an update. I havent been back there since 2002 and was very excited to see it thriving. Nests everywhere, babies everywhere and there are black neck stilts breeding and some cool little shorebirds I couldn't ID. May is the month for least bitterns but I didn't see too many of them. Don't know about Green Cay - didn't visit. Have a great week! Gloria Hopkinswww.gloriahopkins.com
stevea
Thanks. I'm going there in Early June. I hope the babies don't stray too far from the nest by then!
mrspock
Wakodahatchee - I find it pretty full of birds most of the year. The challenge now is finding a time of day when the sun is low in the sky. During the summer, it's just too hot and muggy to go there. I think Wako is consistently the best bird location in SE FLA. Green Cay - it is getting better as the birds become acclimated to it. Since it is much larger than Wako, it will eventually be a very nice place. The only downside to me is that they built it with an extra row of horizontal boards on the rails so you cannot squat down and stick your lens thru the railing to get an eye level shot of a bird that is nearby.
