kent_tolley2
The first one looks f*cked up. There is no white in the print. The second one looks like you've exceeded the latitude of the film. It can't hold detail in the extreme whites and the shadows simultaneously because the film doesn't have that much latitude.
robweatherburn
Hi Kent - yeah - worked about 12 hours to get them both like that. Ah well... the way I wanted them.
adrian bastin
Kent, I think you are applying rules which don't apply. I'd like to paint like these images and that's the realm they are in.
robweatherburn
Adrian - thanks.... and here's a different contrast of the first image. When I thought I had it about right - I made a few slightly different images. Rob<div></div>

blakley
I like them both, Rob. Somewhere between the contrast of your first one and its alternate would work best for me - but the effect is great!
vivek iyer
Rob, Nice to see that you are experimenting. How do the prints look (if you have tried printing). Here is one from me.<div></div>
robweatherburn
Vivek - Bob - thanks for the comments. Bob - I find it difficult to gauge contrast on this laptop screen - so end up doing a few to eventually get one I like. I'm doing these on watercolour paper - vivek = Love the colours and composition there. I reckon you have a sunnier mind - mine are dark and gloomy - that one sparkles Rob
adrian bastin
Bet they look fantastic on watercolour paper. I never liked manipulated images before seeing these pictures of yours. They work very well indeed.
john15
Rob: I enjoyed "Lustrous Light". William Henry Fox Talbot would be pleased.
robweatherburn
John - hey - thanks for that - glad you liked it - and would be really pleased if Talbot thought anything of it. Or Steichan, Steiglitz, DeMarchy, Coburn.... Rob
vivek iyer
Rob, Thanks! The whites do not show as clean whites on the upload. Kent's propehtic post was for me, I guess. I am trying to mimick my 6 year old son's paintings and am doing a poor job of it. :-)
robweatherburn
Vivek - doing a poor job? NO - that's a piece of Art - not just a photo. There's a huge difference. I've found that problem with whites, too. On screen at night they might look white - during the day a dirty grey - and different again when printed. I'm just printing some onto watercolour paper. Keep at that work...
robweatherburn
Vivek - this crop from a neg taken with a Leica IIIB and Sonnar. The original neg was fine - and the full frame photograph OK - but here is something else - a small section that seemed to call for some involvement.<div></div>
