  3. James, technical details please, lens, film... Great glow.

  4. Johnnycake, Its on a ferry in the middle of the island of Sumatera (read: middle of nowhere)... these naked kids (a dozen or more of them) were all skinning dipping, climbing up on to the ferry and diving into the water as as passengers on the ferry through coins in that the kids would dive for as it was departing... Just capturing what I see... :))

I am as furious as it is possible to be.

  6. Stephen, that's the Epson RD-1s and 35 'cron, I think. Not sure about the lens. Maybe the 40 'cron.

  9. Jack, wonderful set. You really have that Summitar dialed in.

Tough, learn to live with it.

  11. If you're furious, I suggest you don't look at the Henri Cartier-Bresson essay that was cited a
couple of posts back, or you'll see African boys skinny dipping in the surf.

  12. Times have changed, folks. So, we would like to think. Try posting images of skinny dipping kids from your part of the world.

  14. They're nothing more than striking, well composed images with good content. That is, until they're of your kids.

  15. I should clarify, my post was in response to the disagreement of shots containing nudity.

  16. Hmm, if they're running around like that, I guess they're fair game. Seems innocent enough
    to me. Good pics Craig.

I hope the photo link works. If not I'll add it in the next post. Contax G2, Zeiss 35 mm lens,
Tri-X, D-76. I think that's all I can remember- it was a while ago. Nice shots above, BTW.

  23. Hahaha. He'd better watch out for anything by Sally Mann too. I don't get why it's wrong
    to post the image...

  24. Thank you George.

  25. Thanks, Christopher. Great shots, all.

  26. Johhnycake, You might wish to read this discussion. The fear of looking at children with prurient desires usually lies within people who speak most rabidly against it.

  29. Exploitation of children is wrong. The boy appears to be washing cars. He's working. I
further suspect that although his work was "fee-for-service," he, personally, didn't receive
the money. He has no pockets. That he might be unclothed as "advertising" for a car
washing service offends me deeply. So, unless I planned a photographic essay about the
exploitation of children, I would not have taken the photo. I am not offended by his nudity.

  30. Johnnycake,

I realise this is a late response to this thread but I wont to point out that NO ONE was exploiting these children for anything. Although they are definately impoverished, as everyone in this area appeared to be, they certainly werent washing anyones cars.

They would climb onto the ferries as they backed out and in the few minutes while they turned around people would through coins into the shallow water and the boys would dive in after them... Nothing more and nothing less! They did not travel on the ferry.

This is the Internet and as such its very easy to make assumptions and have views without knowing the peolple on the other side nor seeing their expressions. You have been around this forum for a while now and I assume you would have seen me as well. If its not the nudity that you reacted to then in future please raise a question. I actually have photos that do represent exploitation although it may not be so obvious. See the images of the Long Neck Karen people in North Thailand. The only reason they continue to place those rings on their necks is because tour operators pay them ~US$13/mth to do it.

I live in Asia and what I photograph is an attempt to capture life here. The good with the bad and without trying to make too many judgements...
