Is there an iris diaphragm on your lens? If not, it may be one of those special lenses that were intended to photograph ocilloscopes

or X-ray screens, or electric meter readings for utility companies.

 

I know that there were a number of half-frame Nikons made for such

purposes. But about your lens--I dunno!

I have a 3.5cm 2.5 W-Nikkor-C. The very front edge of the lens is knurled - I'm not referring to the knurled focus ring, but the very front edge of the lens. If you hold the focus ring steady with one hand, you can turn the front knurled edge with the other, changing the aperture setting.
