Vuescan doesn't recognize Minolta 5400 under Linux

Recommended Posts

Hello,

this may be a bit OT, but I have no idea where else to post this

question. I'm trying to run vuescan (8.20) with my Minolta 5400

scanner on several different linux systems. On RH 9 everything goes

smoothly, but on other systems (Slackware 10.0.0, Gentoo 2.6.8)

vuescan reports "no scanner connected". Vuescan release notes are a

bit cryptic on this - can someone please tell me which libraries need

to be installed or what actions (mounting drives etc) and settings

(read-write accessibility etc) are necessary for the scanner to be

visible?

Thanks a lot!

it depends to some extent what kernel you're using. 2.4 has a 'scanner' module (or similar name) which, when included in the kernel, will find the scanner. 2.6 has got rid of the module and requires libusb (might be incorrect names, it's a while since i did this) which requires some config and i find more complex.
