btmuir
Hey folks, I did search to no avail so here goes. Please be gentle if it's been asked. Do you need AA's in the battery compartment to run a 283 off the Turbo setup? thanks in advance.
mike_earussi1
Though it's been a while, I want to say yes. Don't need them in the 285 though.
picturesque
Mag--it is the opposite. 283 does not need AAs in the internal compartment, 285 does.

btmuir
Thanks for that link Nadine, According to that thread then, the regular older 285 is unsafe or not recommended with a turbo? I haven't seen anyone warn against it in my perusing the threads here ot heard anyone else mention it? Anyone have any experience. The price difference isn't significant it just seems the older pre HV 285s are more abundant over on that auction site we all know and love. I always hear about the trigger voltage to watch out for but nothing regarding this issue??? Thanks.
picturesque
Here is another thread with more info. The HV refers to High Voltage, meaning being able to use Turbos and other high voltage (9 volt, I believe) power packs. Otherwise, it would use 6 volt packs, as mentioned in the thread--Battery One, etc. http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00C0TR The HV doesn't have anything to do with sync voltage, which is a different concern altogether.
