jimstrutz
Canon specifies no more than 6 volts from the flash. According to this site: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html the Vivitar 2800 has been tested at both 140 volts and 20 volts. It seems Vivitar changes the specs and sometimes recycles an old model number for a new flash unit. Anyway, it's too high unless yours happens to be lower. Which it might be. Easy to check it. lee_brand
ALWAYS CHECK THE VOLTAGE YOURSELF if there is any doubt! This is very easy to do with a small multimeter that will cost you $5 or $10 at an electrical/electronics shop. Set it to VDC and measure the voltage accross the centre and ground pins. It is actually worth throwing the really high volt flashes away - to prevent any mistakes or maybe even dipping the whole shoe part in bright red paint :-) As mentioned earlier 6 Volts is the recommended limit. I would not risk going over this. Older camera's - T90 work OK up to 8 Volts but I get edgy at anything that is over 6!
