Velvia 100F vs. Velvia Classic and Provia 100F

Recommended Posts

The Luminous Landscape has a comparison of the new Velvia

100F with Velvia Classic and Provia 100F: it's an interesting read,

and includes scans. They've promised another review of the reciprocity

characteristics soon. I can't wait.

According to the announcement I read in "American Photo", Velvia 100F

uses a 4th color layer technology like developed for Reala, except

for a transparency rather than a negative. The claim is the greens

are much more color accurate than with Velvia, which suffered from

various problems with rendering of greens. As such, I wouldn't

expect Velvia 100F to match the color palette of Velvia classic.

Rather, I would expect it to be more similar to Ektachrome E100VS

in color palette, but with the ultra fine grain of Provia 100F.

I still haven't tried any of it. Comparisons to Velvia classic

may well be moot as I expect Fuji to take Velvia classic off the

market fairly soon.

In the Fuji promo materials I saw, the color palette is definitely different from Velvia 50. I'll leave it to others more experienced than I to say what it looks like, exactly. I haven't gotten the test roll that was gifted to me back yet, but since I wasn't in a position to test it side by side with other films, my opinions will be much more general...
