UV filters on wide angle lenses? Yes or No?

I just picked up a Sigma 10-20mm EX lens for my D200 and wondered if

anyone using this lens could recommend a UV filter that will not

vignette or flair? Or do you guys and gals still use UV filters? I

mainly want it to protect my front element, Id rather clean a

filter then touch my front element. Thanks!

I would definitely get an unthreaded (on the outside) or slim one - you'll want to remove it to put other filters on so there's no need for a front thread, except that you then have to use a push-on lens cap, which is less secure. It may still vignette a little (my slim polarizer does on my 12-24 DX), but it's fairly easily correctable in PS (healing tool works best I find, sometimes cloning is needed too - I find the vignette correction tool pretty useless).

I use a regular tiffen uv filter on my sigma 10-20 and I notice no vignetting.

If you were to use a polarizer on top of that, then you'll start to run into problems.

I probably should replace it with a multi-coated hoya one of these days... at the time tiffen was what they had
