Using 430EX on 300D vs 350D

Hey,

I had a question/comment. I recently upgraded from a 300D to a XT (350D). I use

a 430EX flash. I remember using it on the 300D without a problem. I recently

(for the first time) put it on the 350D, and the LCD on the 430EX showed the

icon for lens-crop detection/sensor. It is a little rectangle icon. This never

showed when I used it on my 300D.

I was just wondering, did I miss/neglect to set something on the flash or 300D.

I'm using the same lens. Or is this a function of the body, XT, which the 300D

didn't have (ETTL-II)? Is there a way to turn it off? (not sure why I would, is

there any reason to turn it off?)

Just curious, no complaints about either of the cameras, they both worked great

with the 430EX.

Thanks,

Amol

The only reason to turn off the auto zoom adjustment for crop cameras is if you find that you are getting flash vignetting in your pictures. There is a custom function on the flash you can set to ignore the sensor size which will provide more even illumination at the expense of some "wasted" flash power and longer recycling time (which may not be significant depending on the focal length, aperture, ISO and subject distance you are working with).
