mike_clinard1
I would like to upgrade my Canon lens inventory to their "L" glass. Currently I have a 20mm, 28-105 and a 75-300 IS for my EOS-3. My goal is to keep it limited to no more than three lens, with one being the 70-200 f/4L and another being the 28-70 f/2.8L. Something a little longer would be next. I suppose my question is, will it be worth the difference in cost vs quality vs usability? I know this is subjective, but this would be a major cash outlay for me and not having "hands-on" experience, I value your opinions.
william_vragovic
Well, with the two you've said you want to get 70-200, 28-70, plus the 20mm would make three, right? Unless you're planning on getting rid of that one, too? As for something longer, I would suggest the 300mmF4, or maybe the 1.4x converter on the 70-200, depending on your budget. In your situation, I would allow for a fourth lens to keep the 20, but that's just me :)
bill_goldman
If you get the new 24-70mm f/2.8L instead of the to-be-discontinued 28-70mm f/2.8L, you may not need to hold onto the 20mm, depending on how much use you get out of it, but that's strictly up to you. I agree that the 300mm f/4L IS would be a great acquisition down the line. A 1.4X Extender would also be a worthwhile addition.
isaac sibson
This seems to be headed toward my own kit... I have the 20 F2.8, 24-85, 70-200 F4L and 300 F4L IS, as well as the Canon 1.4X TC. It's a superb combo, and the logical next steps are the 24-70 F2.8L and the 2X TC. Consider the 1.4X on the 70-200 F4L...it works very well indeed...
