Upcoming Ireland trip

<p>Hi,<br>

I'm taking a trip to Ireland soon, flying into Dublin and out of Cork. Google has turned out of few places to visit, and I'm quite keen to drop by the Rock of Cashel amongst others. I thought I'd turn to the collective wisdom here for any must-see locations?<br>

<p>I have found the southwest of Ireland to be one of the most photogenic places I have visited, Cork & Kerry in particular have some fantastic scenery.<br>

Assuming you are hiring a car, then a trip around the various peninsulas is a must.</p>

<p>I've just looked at my contribution to the thread linked above by BW Combs, and I'll stick on that with these additions. </p>

<p>I do hope you'll be hiring a car. It will not be anywhere near as good without one.</p>

<p>Just to emphasize the west/southwest coast. Much of inland and eastern Ireland isn't terribly spectacular - a cultural experience rather than a scenic one if you like. But the west coast can be really beautiful.</p><div></div>

Just got back from Ireland a month ago today! The Rock of Cashel is well worth seeing, great photo op, the Dingle Peninsula is more picturesque than the Ring of Kerry, but both are worth seeing. I wouldn't waste my time going up to see the Blarney stone (unless it's a must see for you), they charge 10 Euros for a picture of you kissing the stone. They won't let you get a good shot yourself as you can only shoot from one side. The lines are long and the climb up just isn't worth it. Trinity College is neat, but your not allowed to photograph the Book of Kells or the fantastic library there, again worth seeing but-? Powerscourt Estate, and Glendalough are really worth seeing, very photogenic. The are located just to the Southeast of Dublin. Killarney is great town, easy to walk, good eating, good shopping (the Blarney Mill outlet store in Killarney is cheaper the the store @ Blarney Mill). Take a "JauntingCar" ride in Killarney and visit the Muckross House and Gardens, tour the house, it is very interesting and another great photo shoot. If you get to Limerick, be sure to do the dinner at the Bunratty Castle, a very enjoyable evening! Be sure to taste the "mead" We had rain every day that we were in Ireland (and May is supposed to be the driest month) . But Ireland is beautiful, the people are friendly, the beer is good-enjoy your triip and let us know how it went. If you'd like to see some of my shots of Ireland check out my gallery @

<p>In Dublin the Winding Stair bookshop/restaurant is a nice place to take a breather - <a href="http://www.thewindingstair.blogspot.com/">http://www.thewindingstair.blogspot.com/</a> - and any drive through the countryside is bound to be lovely, rain or no. Some of my favorite spots were the Sky road in Clifden, Galway, and Clare Island, but those are further West into Connemara.</p>

<p>The area between clifden (in connemara) and westport is beautiful and a little off the beaten track.</p>

<p>Dingle and the peninsula are a must see. Also the Cliffs of Moher up by Lahinch are worth a stop. If you want a great place to stay in Dingle, try Heaton's...very comfortable and friendly. A car is a must</p>

<p>If you have the time, I would consider making the drive around the Beara Peninsula (near Kenmare). It is very photogenic and was uncrowded when I was there in Sept '07. I haven't done Dingle Peninsula yet, so I can't compare the two. </p>

<p>As for Rock of Cashel, if you have good weather I would consider getting some shots in the late afternoon from the ruins below ROC to the west. The light is great there late in the day. <p>I would go to the "giants causeway" in the Antrim county in the Northern Ireland; it's really amazing, you can take a look at it in my portfolio in the "Northern Ireland" folder, or try to search it in the web. The surrounding coast is magnificent too.</p>
