chris_wadleigh
I will be making a trip to south Florida in early February. I would like to do some snorkling in Biscayne and/or Tortugas National Parks. I know nothing about underwater photography. Are there places I can rent equipment from nearby? Can anyone help me? Thank you.
steve_levine
Most dive shop's either rents real UW cameras, or sells disposables. If you want even mediocre results, you need to read up on the subject.
seawolff
Chris, Snorkelers do not do too well with uw photography in general. You can see some of my underwter stuff at http://www.seawolff.com/photo. Some are diving, some are snorkeling. The very best source for rental gear down there is Stephen Frink's place at mile marker 103 or so in Key Largo. Serious gear, serious bucks. Whoever you arrange your trips with will also probably have a camera for rent, there are inexpensive digital's for underwater (like the sea and sea series), and some disposables good to about 15 feet. Do some research ar http://wwww.underwaterphoto.com Enjoy your trip! Alex
blueviews
I agree with the recommendation on Mr. Frink. He is a great photographer and a good guy. Don't worry too much, get a cheap rental, get close and you will likely get hooked. Be aware that gettting hooked can be expensive. Look at some of the pics in the UW section here and you will see just how easy it is. :) BVA
krannichfeld
You might also look into picking up an underwater case for your point and shoot, if you have one. I have used one on a Canon a520 and a Canon SD700IS with great results...they generally run $150-$200 but you will get far better results than with the cheap disposable ones you can get. Attached is an example out of the Canon SD700IS...had to knock the quality way down to upload it, but you get the general idea...hope that helps!
