traveling display

  1. Folks...this is probably the wrong forum for my question....however......
I have a client who is a good amateur photographer…travels the world shooting images…'
    All digital…
He is looking for a way to have a portable displaying system to take with him to show his photos…
We came up with the idea of getting like a 22" monitor with HDMI input, and some
kind of pad computer…like the iPad…but I don’t think the iPad has any usb ports or
    an HDMI output…
He tried a projector, and bought a screen for it…but was unhappy…did not feel
    that the quality was sufficient…
He is picky…and he wants some kind of a portable system that he can take with him
and show his pix to maybe 10-15 people at a time…a decent size screen…does not want a
lot of setup time…not a lot of heavy gear…and he wants high visual quality on the monitor
    when he shows his stuff…
Thought you might have an idea…and we are NOT stuck to this idea…
I also presented him with getting a laptop with a 17" screen…but he has
    negated that idea…
    Looking for ideas...
    Many thanks...
    Steve

  2. Here's an idea from way out in left field. Instead of using a display, he uses a small dye sub printer and passes prints
    around.

  3. There are simple HDMI adapters/cables for the iPad - very simple to push output from it to a nice LCD TV at full 1080 resolution. He's going to want to prep the images for that 1920x1080 format, of course. And understand that unless he goes to some trouble to adjust it, the TV's display is probably going to be overly bright and contrasty.

The next issue is deciding on which app to use to show off the images. I like the "Portfolio" app on the iPad - very flexible.

  4. Eye-Fi Card and iPad.

22" screens are very small an inexpensive these days. If you can find a decent padded case to put it in, it would likely be reasonably carryable. As for an iPad to drive the monitor, I would only do that if I already had an iPad. Otherwise the trouble and the expense are probably not practical. Does your friend already travel with a laptop, otherwise consider a small used laptop for $150, lots of them all over CL.
