karla_eckhoff1
If I want to achieve a toning effect of a digital print (brown tone, sepia, etc), can this be done via imaging software or as a printing process? I currently use GIMP to modify my digital files and ftp them to a photo lab. If it can be done using GIMP or other imaging software, then my next question is obviously HOW? will_muir
Here is a link that seems to work well for me. http://cs.uhh.hawaii.edu/~jeschke/photography/articles/gimp/SepiaToning/ The rest of the posts here won't work with the gimp I think, there are work around's but this seems to be the most straight forward and effective method that I have found. Will
tom_michoel
Here is another quick and easy way of doing this. Set your foreground color to whatever toning color you like. Convert your B&W image to RGB. Add a new layer with "layer fill type" set to "foreground". Set layer mode to "overlay". For more information on blending modes, check out Grokking the Gimp, Chapter 5, or The Gimp User Manual, Chapter 21.
