From the visitors' center, the sculpture is pretty far away. If anything, I would suggest even a longer lens such as a 300 with possibly a 1.4X TC if you want to show detail in the faces. Definitely bring a tripod. I was only there once and the longest lens that I had was a 200. It wasn't long enough for me. Stick around for night photos when everything is lit, including some of the spectators.

Show up and look around. See what intrests you, and find out when and where you want to shoot it from. Too often, people think they should repeat the postcard of the place. This is fine and very easy to do, but only brings you the satisfaction of seeing the difference. Shooting it based on what you sense and fell will show not only the difference between you and the postcard, but show the difference in your vision at that time of the place.
