Teton National Park, Schwabacher Landing

I am in the process of planning the photo itinerary for an upcoming trip to Grand Teton National Park. I understand the NPS has eliminated the great photo reflection area at Schwabacher Landing. Can anyone confirm if this is true? If so, I would be greatly appreciative for any suggestions or information of any other similar photo opportunities.

I haven't heard anything, but then that doesn't mean much! The

National Park Service has a web page, and an email link to

their webmaster. Maybe if you ask them, they will have some

information. If they do, please post it as a followup to your

question here.

There is the classic reflection from Oxbow Bend on the Snake(?) River of course.

The location is quite obvious (there's a parking lot!) about

a mile or so from the Jackson Lake junction towards the Moran

entrance station. I imagine there must be reflections in

Jenny Lake too.

BTW where exactly is Schwabacher Landing? I've been to Grand

Teton a few times but don't recall the name (I'm usually looking

for Moose, not mountain reflections!).

Greatly appreciate your response to my posting. In compiling these sources, what I have been able to gather is the NPS has eliminated the "classic" reflection area at Schwabacher Landing in the interest of float trips. However, I also have been given to understand that by following the trail from the landing parking lot north about quarter to half a mile there is other reflection opportunities. Schwabacher Landing is located at the end of a one-mile gravel road that splits off just north of the Glacier View Turnout.

Simon; Schwabacher Landing is a major raft launch site on the Snake

river, so I can't believe the NPS would close it. Having shot many

pictures there the last four years, I can tell you that it is not

difficult to get to, but I would recommend a SUV to avoid high

centetering a car on the dirt/gravel access road. If you would like I

can scan some of my pix and a chunk of a map and e-mail them directly to

you.
