derek_simpson
I've managed to install firewire on the lap top and the 1DII is transmitting pictures to the computer but it's all a bit clunkety - press download and select image and open zoombrowser and see a small screen version - ok in its way but what I'm after is shooting and reviewing full screen and fast. Unfortunately my laptop runs in Win98SE and Digital Photo Professional doesn't . Does anyone know a Win98SE viewer utility which will allow what I'm trying to do ? William Kahn
No matter what you do with Windows 98SE, it's going to be clunky. Time to upgrade - to XP, not ME!
mars c
WIN98se is not a very good flatform for viewing and editing pix, Why cant you just upgrade it to winxp pro sp2 to solve the problem?
digitmstr
Win 98 is history. If you have the cash for a 1DMKII you should have the $139.00 for a win XP PRO CD, no?
steve_dunn2
Yeah, but he probably also has to spend four figures on a new laptop, too; if his laptop is so old that it came with 98, it's quite unlikely to be a suitable platform for XP.
digitmstr
>>Yeah, but he probably also has to spend four figures on a new laptop, too;<< Most likely, yes. But, XP laptops have been around for a while and he can get one good enough to do editing in PS for about $500-700, which would of course include the OS. taner
DPP works with WIN98SE just fine - you need to go into the appropriate folder on the CD and double click the installer (I used it for nearly a year on my W98SE desktop) - there are minor annoyances though - I was not able to choose a 'save to' folder for example (everything was saved to My Pictures folder)... If your systems drive crashes you'll have lost every thing. Which in turns means, everytime you use it you are forced to copy everything to your DATA drive. Also, if his laptop is that old the system drive will be too small. There is not reason to make life more complicated, IMO.
