yuri_sopko
I would like to know if anyone has used one of these flip-mirrors with atelescope and their camera. And, after focusing, how accurate is it? I would beusing it for both astro and nature pics. Thanks!
ronald_moravec1
Are you talking a reflex mirror housing for a rangefinder camera? What you see is what you get and if still calibrated properly, focus is perfect.
stefan_g
I assume you mean a flip-up mirror that allows you to switch between the camera port and the eyepiece port, either built-in (like on the Meade ETX 90), or as an add-on part. The only one I have used is the one on my ETX90. Short answer: in my (very limited) experience the flip-mirror + eyepiece is only good to check your field of view for coarse alignment. It doesn't help for initial focusing (unless you had a way of mounting camera and eyepiece always with the exact same extensions), and I do not know whether you can correct for (thermal) focus drift of the camera by using the common (main mirror, for an ETX90) focus adjustment while observing through the eyepiece. I'd guess that would depend on the differences in lengths and types of material you introduced into the two paths.
