alan_bryant1
Assuming the Tamron is a Canon EF mount, I would expect it to work.

However it's possible it won't report the aperture correctly (it might say f/2.8 instead of f/5.6).
dcstep
To assure reporting, you might consider a used Canon teleconverter. With this old lens, a Series III TC makes no sense, but you should be able to buy a Series II relatively inexpensively.
poulbh
When trying out converters make sure they are compatible mechanically as well. With some combinations you can have the lens extending into the converter, when zooming or focusing! ! !
mike_hitchen
I successfully use the Tamron teleconverter on my 100-400LIS and 70-200F4LIS so I have no doubt it would work on the 80-200 as well. The Tamron does not have the front protrusion like the Canon tc does and it is that protrusion that makes the Canon tc incompatible with some of their lenses.

I have no problem with it reporting the aperture even when on the 100-400 it takes the aperture to f8.
William Michael

I successfully use the Tamron teleconverter . . . I have no problem with it reporting the aperture even when on the 100-400 it takes the aperture to f8.

Are you using a different model Tele-converter? (i.e. x1.4)
The OP is asking about the Tamron-F AF tele converter 2x C-AF BBAR NC7 model, which is a x2.0 Tele-converter.

WW
