Tele Arton 5,5/270mm Multicoated?

Does someone know about this late production model, similar in aspect to the

5,5/250mm Multicoated (black Copal1) ? I wrote to Schneider in Germany and I was

given the caracteristics of the old 270 Tele-Arton, with 152mm F/f and 178mm

image circle. It would be nice if so, but the late 250mm requiring 200mm F/f, I

would think that these numbers are not for the late one. Anyone owns one or has

a leaflet ?

Here's what Schneider says at http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/vintage_lens_data/large_format_lenses/tele-arton/:

"The Tele-Arton is a telephoto design. Their short flange focal length allows the use of long lenses on cameras with short bellows extension, such as the "technical cameras". Earlier f/4 and f/5.5 models are 5 elements in 4 groups. The 250 mm f/5.6 is a modern multicoated 5-element, 5-group lens. All models have a 35 deg. angle of coverage." So it seems that there are only single coated f5.5 Tele-Artons. They have a link giving the same specs that you mention: http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/vintage_lens_data/large_format_lenses/tele-arton/data/5.5-270mm.htm.

If you are considering a specific lens, just look for the word "Multicoating" on the lens -- see http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/faq/photography.htm#q9.

It's funny that they have tech sheets for the old stuff but not for the ones recently dropped. There is just a mention but no spec sheet for the 5,5 250mm Tele-Arton S for instance as far as I could find, and this 270mm is supposedly of the same vein. Thanks Michael.

  • 6 months later...

Hello,

I am aware that this thread has been started several months ago and it seems like there is no further information on this matter.

However, as I would like to purchase the Tele-Arton 5.5/270mm MC mentioned here, I was hoping to get some new information by someone who actually uses this lens.

I would like to use it on a 6x9 Ebony. Is the focal flange distance really 152mm? How is the optical quality compared to commun Sironar-Ns or similar lenses?

Any other information would be highly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Aender
