Sunpet

Recommended Posts

I worked on a fellow's computer up in Hillsboro, NM a couple years ago

and he gave me this toy camera. I Decided to put a roll of film

through it this morning to celebrate the beginning of this new

forum.
The Sunpet makes 6x6 pictures on 120 film; it

is made of very thin plastic and weighs only a couple ounces. There

are no aperture or speed controls, but the 70mm f/8 "Precision Lens"

can be focused from 4 ft. to inf. The shutter looks to me like it is

firing at about 1/100th sec.
Surprisingly, there are

no light leaks in the camera. However, the film rolls up very loosely

as there is no pressure plate or any tension springs on either the

supply or take-up side, so I decided to unload the roll inside my dark

bag.
00CZ0w-24170284.jpg.cdef5d8ca8a9aee2dbb7a78135230dc0.jpg

Here is a shot from the Sunpet. Early morning light, APX 100 in Diafine. The lens is pretty uniformly soft without the central area of sharp focus one sees in the Holga. There is only a little vignetting. To see some nice color work with this camera, take a look at this page by Andreas Wolkerstorfer.
00CZ1C-24170484.jpg.41f68139b04f13393999ab145a2d88b1.jpg

I'm sure the Holga trick of wedging a couple layers of the film box behind the supply spool to provide some friction will likely help the loose wind in the Sunpet quite a lot.

Other than that, it does look like something from the Diana/Holga family, a cheap 6x6 box camera repackaged to look like an Iskra or similar RF...
