The auto-off reset button turns the flash back on after the flash enters power save mode. The flash turns itself off after a few minutes of inactivity and that button turns the flash back on without having to turn on the on/off switch.

I used 3 422D's for the camera museum for a while, but I got annoyed by the power turning off on me all the time. The Vivitar 283's I'm using now work nicely with the SB-4 Power supply and VP-1 variable control. They can also stay on without killing the batteries and run withou any batteries (on A/C) which is nice. Soon I may be using my monolights in the studio, if I can find some more space.

Hope that helps!
