dan d. chang
any information about the different aperture arrangement? I think some of them are rounded, but this 8xxxxx one is a hexagonal iris. does this affect the backgroup out of focus image? thanks
carey_russ
Shot with a hex-iris Summitar wide open. Not gonna be in the bokeh hall of fame....<div></div>
tom5
I have the Summitar with the higher number of blades - 12? I took some pictures that had lovely bokeh but recently I had a couple with terrible , ring-like out of focus areas. The out of focus rendition seems to depend a lot on the exact focus distance and the aperture.
dan d. chang
actually the Hexagonal also has 12 blades, 6 for the aperture and 6 for block the light??? the ring shape OOF immage depends on distance and light condition, I have seen this on first version 35/2 and 50 DR/rigid, not special for summitar. icuneko
From various readings over the years I've come to understand that bokeh is a function of quite a number of parameters, not just the number or shape of the aperture blades and aperture opening. It's related to the circle of confusion (coc) limits, the distance(s) in and out of the actual focal plane, the aberrations corrected and left in, etc. Please correct me if I'm wrong, and add to this list too.
