A million dollars.

Depends on whether you want it as a fetish item, or as something to use. Depends on how many people decide they want one at the same time. Depends on whether you are willing to shop on eBay.

 

For instance, a somewhat scruffy one didn't sell for $50 on eBay, where a rather nice one sold for $65 on eBay.

The 50/90/135 adjustable works as well. It is very long in the 50mm position and yet doen`t vignette. It it easily three thmes as effective as the current 50 shades.

 

I don`t know the official Summar shade, but this is just as effective as a barndoor one.

I use the adjustable hood (FIKUS) with my Summar. Works fine. The US$60 range sounds about right for a clean example.

The fact that the shades work mechanically has no effect upon how they perform optically. Round shades deep enough to be effective against flare will definitely vignette at the corners. Only a properly designed rectangular shade will provide optimal protection against flare. Put a SOOGZ on the lens and use a 12526 rectangular shade. Then you can use E39 filters.

Photax made a great Leitz rectangular copy shade for the Summar. Maybe some other manufacturers did too. I agree that the Summar needs all the help it can get.
