steve_gibbs1
I recently had to close my studio because of some health issues with the building and some new tenants next door (a car detailing place). It was a warehouse with a showroom area; perfect for my biz. I have been frantically shopping for a new one, but the physical neccessities of a camera room are hard to find and VERY expensive. I may have found a good space (good local, enough SQ Footage) but it only has 10 foot ceilings. Anyone think that this is possible? (My last space had 16 foot ceilings.) They are drop panels, so I could possibly raise another 6 inches or so. Should I keep looking? Anyone ever build a decent studio with 10 foot ceilings? steve_levine
I assume you shoot people? And not autos or furniture? You will need at least 10 feet(or more) to place hairlights for standing subjects. If you shoot mostly seated subjects, ten feet isn't any problem. steve_gibbs1
Oh yes, forgot to mention. I shoot mostly people. Brides, kids, pets, families, and some product/food on the side. No cars, horses, furniture sets, etc. Hairlight for a big group is a primary concern. I have seen some stripboxes that are flush (thin design, less depth) but I dont know if that will help enough. jeffc1
10' is plenty high enough unless your clients are giants and/or centers for a pro basketball team. My studio now has 16' ceilings but I am planning on a new building where the ceiling height will be 10'. It could even be less with track lighting. brooks short
I'd keep looking. Ten ft ceilings are not high enough if you plan on shooting standing, full length people shots and want to use a hair or seperation light in a softbox. My ceilings are 13 ft and they're just high enough and could be higher.
