ds_meador
Here's another lawsuit involving street photography. This one is being picked up by the ACLU on the side of the photographer.
http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/DC-Police-Violated-Photographers-Rights-ACLU-124821489.html
DS Meador
Aoresteen
If it goes to trial (I don't think it will - they will settle) to police will get creamed. They will settle so that that there is no court precedent set.

That way they can continue with their illegal actions when it suits them.
dan_meyers1
Anthony,

I agree. This kind of behavior on the part of authorities is just absurd and makes little sense when every new gizmo pushed on consumers contains a camera and HD video. Imagine a day when photographing in public becomes problematic for an American...where are we going?
jaydesi
If I understand these things correctly, and I may not, a case can only be settled out of court if both sides agree to the settlement. If the police are eager to settle to avoid a precedent, then it seems the ACLU would be wise to refuse and see it through the legal process. That would do more to further the cause they're representing than settling would.
