frank uhlig
Short question: how does one connect the bottom of a Nikon SC 17 flash cord to the Stratos bracket effectively, so that one can set this up, take it down quickly, without hardware, pliers, ...??? I have looked at the dedicated Stratos 1/4 - 20 flash adaptor, but the screw for the cord + flash on top seems just to be a bare bolt, requiring those pliers, nut drivers .... Can a "wing screw" or a "knobby bolt" be fitted onto this gadget instead in order to simplify and speed up (dis)assembling the rig? Has anyone used Stratos with Nikon's cord? Thanks! david_h._hartman
The tacky way is a small fender washer with a couple of similar sized Neoprene fender washer. The better was is with small inserts made by Bogen and others. Poke around B&H Photo. I think they range for something like $6.00 to $20.00 (USD). Im still using the tacky way as I forgot to add one with my last B&H order. I use stainless steel screws to secure the SC-17. You can get this with a slotted or hex head. I prefer the hex type. david_h._hartman
Im creating a list of small items to add to my next B&H order. Here are some links to products that might solve your problem. You can find a link to B&H Photo at the bottom of PHOTO.NETs home page. The Stroboframe device looks best to me. I think I was mistaken about the Bogen product or else I just cant find it.

Stroboframe, Flash Anti-Twist Plate for Nikon SC-17 Cord

Custom Brackets, Flash Mounting Plate F35-N for Nikon SC-17 Off Camera TTL Cord

Regards,

Dave. frank uhlig
There actually is no problem and nothing else to buy for the Stratos brackets as it comes from the store and the SC 17 Nikon cord: Simply use the screw and bolt it through the supplied hot-shoe to the cord end. End of job. Sorry, but I did not know this beforehand. The rig is more simple and rigid and much more versatile as to backwards or sideways (via the RRS F 100 L bracket) mounting etc than any of the Stroboframe brackets I know. Now if Stratos only cut Arca Swiss type grooves into their 1/4 '' bottom plate (width is exactly the same!) .... they would corner the market in a week. I will have mine machined to the Arca Swiss profile next and then I am all set ... Wonderful brackets!
jasonsmith
Frank, Does the Stratos bracket enable you to rotate the camera as does the stroboframe.
