Strangely dead OM-10

  1. Hello

I've got OM-10 recently which is dead, in a weird way. Here are the symptoms and let's see if anyone can help:

    1. The shutter fires all the time at a same (high) speed. Even in bulb!
    2. The shutter fires regardless of batteries being inserted or not (that's right, no mirror lockup there).
    3. Battery check and self timer don't work.
    4. Light meter "works" and responds to aperture change.

I tried cleaning the magnet. It's no use.
I film-tested it, just in case anyone would suggest to do so.

The body itself is in pristine condition. As if it's never been used.

Any clues on what might be wrong? I'm well aware that I can buy a replacement for a fairly cheap price, but I wouldn't do it, owning OM-4. The whole point of this thread is curiosity.

    Thank you!

  2. Bad circuit board?

John Hermanson is your Olympus repair guy to inquire. He has posted at times in the past on this forum, but it's been been a while since I've seen his name pop up.

  3. Thank you. I'll try to look him up somewhere. What bugs me is that normally OM cameras lock up the mirror when batteries are dead. This one, however, shoots as if there's nothing wrong at all, even with completely empty battery compartment. So I guess es, it's PCB
