hyunyu
I just bought a used N80 via eBay. The camera arrived today, and it seems to be an a great shape, except that there's a strange "gap" beneath the bottom of the viewfinder where the aperture and shutter speeds would be displayed. Here's a couple of clumsy pictures of the viewfinder:

One more:

I've looked inside the mirror chamber of the camera, but can't see anything obviously wrong. The camera seems to work OK with a lens attached. I haven't shot a roll through yet, I'm going to do that later today and see how they turn out.

Does anyone know what the abnormal showing above may be?
hyunyu
Here's another picture. Basically, there's a clear gap under the bottom of the viewfinder info panel!

jerry thirsty
When I look in mine straight in, I can't see anything, but if I try to look in and down, I see a white, lit triangle. But it appears to me that what I am seeing is a reflection of a different face of the pentaprism, not the face that is straight ahead. Don't know why yours has the black jagged thing superimposed over it; maybe light seal material?
shambrick007
The focus screen is missing/has fallen out.
hyunyu
The focus screen is missing/has fallen out.

I don't believe that's the case--I can very clearly see the five focus points and the custom-function enabled grid. Wouldn't those be parts of the focusing screen?
Ian Rance
The grid and focus points are on a seperate LCD overlay.

Ian
hyunyu
Thanks for that information, Ian. Would this affect the usage of the camera? I guess I'll find out when I shoot a roll through today.
ShunCheung
I wonder why you haven't begun the process of returning the camera back to the seller for a refund?
hyunyu
Well the roll came back absolutely fine. No evidence of any light leak, and no scratches or anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and insights.
shambrick007
The roll may have been fine, but the camera is still "wrong". I'm still going w/missing focus screen. Retrun it and keep Ebay honest.
