Stock agency bankrupt, what to do?

Recommended Posts

So I got greeted with a letter from the Feds yesterday, stating that my stock photo agency (SuperStock) has gone Chapter 11 bankrupt. A news article about it can be found here:
http://www.pdnonline.com/pdn/content_display/photo-news/stock-and-syndication/e3i9292a5081d36be07181e79b4fbbba84a
I should mention that for myself, this was not a primary source of income, so mostly I feel bad for the guys who are in that boat. If nothing else, I guess I can wait and see what happens with the acquisition by Masterfile. Thankfully, I got all my original film back some time ago, and they had only hi-rez scans on file. If Masterfile simply absorbs the catalog and business goes on, that's fine with me. If not, I am concerned about what happens to my images... Like everyone, I've seen plenty of my stuff pirated around the web already.
I guess I'm looking for any advice on how to proceed... Considering SuperStock will probably pay "pennies on the dollar" for any recent sales as part of the divestment, I'm not real interested in hiring lawyers to wring the last bit of money out of them. Anyone been in this situation before? Thanks in advance...

There is good information available to you linked from the address you provided in your post. It's basically all in there.

Someone buys your contract, they pay you any money owed on it.
Someone doesn't and you get your photos back.
If you are owned money on the contract prior to Dec 4 (the date of the bankruptcy filing) then your an unsecured creditor. FILE A PROOF OF CLAIM WITHIN THE DEADLINE. This will put you in line with other unsecured creditors.
Any money earned on your contract after Dec 4 is treated as an "administrative expense" and not an unsecured claim (like the pre-Dec 4 monies owed you) which moves you up in terms of priority. It's a good thing.

In any event, file a proof of claim:
