paul t Posted April 8, 2005 Share Posted April 8, 2005 A few years ago I spent several months travelling around the North Mississippi hill country. It's a spooky place that boasts quite a few people who play primitive, weird old blues music. North MIssissippi was the only place outside New Orleans where African Americans were allowed to play drums (which were thought to be used to foment slave rebellions), and there are still a few people who play fife and drum music, which goes back to African times. Anyway, I've just been looking through the portfolio of <a href="http://www.steberphoto.com/Imagesfull/Bird1.jpg">Bill Steber</a>, who portrays the area beautifully. For each Bukka White there were hundreds, perhaps thousands, of obscure blues musicians who never made it past the Mississippi Delta.
