Glaziers buy their pane glass in larger sheets called "lights," sometimes spelled "lites." There are different thicknesses and qualities, so the prices vary. The lights come in bundles, interleaved with paper, but scratches and blemishes do occur, so glass sheets are often sold as select or random. In the case of select, they search out flawless sheets for you at a higher price. Many lumberyards do the same in selling various lengths of wood. "Random" means you take what you get off the pile, and "select" allows you to reject warped or split boards. Any good local glazier should be able to furnish you with select pane glass, or order it, at a slightly higher price than "random."
