leandrew_coates2
I recently brought a used Sony A77 as a backup camera. And I finally shot it for the first time last weekend and noticed the images not as clear as they should be while editing. So I took the lens off and noticed a scratch in the translucent mirror. I should have check the camera out good when i brought it so I blame myself. But I have owned several Sony's from my A 57, A65, A99, and A99 II and and have never had no is such issue. How is easy is it to change this mirror out.?
BeBu Lamar
I think it's as easy as buying another camera
rodeo_joe1
A couple of used a77s turned up in a local store - looking less than carefully handled, but the price was tempting. However, as soon as I read the words 'translucent mirror' in the spec, I vowed not to touch them. I think replacing the mirror is a job for a Sony service centre, and as Bebu suggested, the price may make it 'BER' - Beyond Economic Repair. If the vendor didn't disclose the damage, then you may have a right to a return and refund. Good luck!
BeBu Lamar
The worst part is that the translucent mirror is only to reflect light onto the AF sensor. Viewfinder image is an EVF. As AF performance of Sony Mirrorless is getting so good now there is little reason to go for the SLT.
mark_stephan2
If you own a bunch of Minolta, Sony G, Tokina AT-X Pro and Tamron SP lenses all in A mount I disagree. I don't want to switch to E mount yet. The A77 is a fantastic camera and they are reasonably cheap in very nice condition. I've always sent my camera off to the oem manufacturer and always received a camera that worked like new when I got them back. You might want to look into an estimate before spending more and more money for another camera.
rodeo_joe1
"I don't want to switch to Emount yet." - Isn't there an adapter from E body to A lens that retains all the functionality? Edited April 2, 2018 by rodeo_joe|
