Sony A700 Problem

Hi all,

I just picked up a A700 from the infamous site and it's in great condition

almost mint but with one problem it has blurry focusing, when I do a test with

a magazine cover it looks like it has a front focus problem. So is it the lens

or body, one odd thing when I have the lens say at close focus and turn

the camera on it turns the lens back to infinity.

Well, did you try with another lens?

Can you post a sample image? Indicate how/where you focused, and let's see the result.

No, when I look though the finder and focus it's sharp, but when I take a picture and look at the rear screen it's blurry.

I also have three lenses coming, a 20mm, 28mm and 50mm. I test it all with

the camera. The prices for these lenses are great compared to Nikon or Canon.

Yes, I collected a number of very nice Minolta prime lenses for not very much money, at a time before the Minolta DSLR's were introduced. Now I think they are again less sought after due to the move away from A-Mount towards E-Mount.

 

If you are seeing a sharp image on the focusing screen, there seems to be an issue with the sensor on your camera.

I think that's what it is too, I'll send it back and look for another one. Thank you

Just another thought, could the focusing screen be installed incorrectly?

I don't really know exactly how the diopter-adjustment dial works, but I don't suppose it could be as simple as it being in the wrong position?

It's fine, I did pick up a Minolta 7D and put the lens on that camera and it works

great no problem, it's something with the A700 camera, just think I spend $19.95 for the

7D and $250.00 for the Sony A700 goes to show ya.

Well, none of these cameras last forever, and a sample of 1 doesn't really show anything. But yes, enjoy what's working!

 

I hope you won't have any trouble getting a refund on the Alpha 700. I'm surprised a seller would sell a malfunctioning camera for so high a price without testing/stating.

I sent it back, I purchased it on ebay and the listing said working, so it protected

under the their protection plan. I just received a Minolta 50mm f1.7 and it's really

nice little soft wide open but closed down nice and sharp.
