tim_kohlman
Took some shots of my brothers band on the weekend, since I managed to figure out how to scan film, I though i'd post a couple of pics. First time I've shot something like this, I was very happy with the results but it was tough with very low light, the 50mm wide open performs better than I remember!

These were all taken with an OM-4, 50mm f/1.4 @ 1.4 (auto)
Fuji Neopan 1600 @ 1600 developed in Microphen Stock

I must say, I'm loving the Neopan 1600, such a nice film

anthea50
Hi Tim
Great shots! You've captured the mood so well that I almost feel as if I'm there! Pic no 2 is my favourite - although I love the tones in all of them.
I have an OM10, love it, still use it sometimes, I just made the leap to digital last year, I bought an E520.
Keep up the great work, and keep posting!
Cheers, Anthea

tim_kohlman
it was fun! but very hit and miss,

The OTF metered auto exposure was a real plus, the lights were constantly changing and my meter readings ranged between 1/8th - 1/500th at f/1.4 depending on what the lights did so a lot of my manually metered shots were wrong. Unfortunately a lot of the auto shots were blurry because it would use a shutter speed that wasn't fast enough. I have a feeling most of the shots that have been keepers were ones with the camera on auto.

Anyway, my advice for anyone doing something like this is to use 3200iso film, 1600iso was useably but only barely, and a f/1.2 lens if you can afford it. Set it to f/1.2 and use an OM-2/4 with OTF auto, wait for the brighter light patterns and when the performers are not moving around too much, expect to waste alot of film.

Also, 50mm was a bit long for a small pub gig, but the next best option for me was 28 or 35mm f/2.8 which wasn't going to give me enough speed to be worth it. Anything slower than f/2 is probably going to be relatively useless.

This was a really small gig though, so I'm not sure if bigger gigs would have brighter stage lights. I would have killed for flash!
