david_williams11
Hi; I'm looking for a piece of software that will keep track of all my photo information - negatatives, slides, digital images. Basically, I want to be able to search and sort everything with ease. I've been do this with excel, it works fine and it's simple, but I was wondering if there was a photographic specific program out there. Most important thing is that it's not loaded with too many bells and whistles, I just want to keep track of everything. Thanx,Dave
aaron_w.
Dave: In my recent examination of quite a few image-organizing software products, none facilitated tracking/inventorying of your physical negs and slides, just the digital image files. You may want to review my thread on this subject anyway... Aaron http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=006ZY1
joseph_verdesca
If you use Photoshop, the new Photoshop CS has a nice built-in viewer / organizer with spaces for any info you want to insert.
majid
Some of the better digital asset management programs will allow you add custom fields to the database, so you could conceivably link it to your filing system, assuming you have a way to scan the images in in the first place (a big if). The program I personally prefer is IMatch.

robbie becklund
A trial version of Cumulus came with my Nikon scanner and upgraded to a full version. It's very easy to use and their support was very helpful when I had a couple of questions. It does have some bells and whistles which are nice if needed. It handles any digital file like sound, video etc. Their at www.canto.com Robbie
