ling_z
I just acquired a brandnew Sinar P2 2000 Limited Edition. To my surprise, I found most of the internal gears (toothed wheels) were made of plastics (see picture). Does this mean Sinar is trying to save cost or to save weight? Hope it is still as rugged as Sinar P.
gudmundur_ing_lfsson1
The Sinar P has the same plastics (I think it is nylon) but they used to be black so you belived it was something else. My Sinar P is twenty years old and still as good as new.
tom_duffy1
If you have the time for a response, I'd love to know the difference between Limited Edition and a regular P2. I shoot with a 5x7 P2. thanks. Tom
graphicjoe
Ling, Dont assume that plastics are cheaper in any sense the metal parts. High grade Nylon is usually more expensive than brass or aluminum. High quality plastics such as I assume Sinar would use are high in quality and can be more functional than metal parts. They normally require no lubrication, are smooth and silent in action, and can make for an improved product. I know that my Toyo G has a lot of plastic parts, and they have given great service over many years. Plastic gears and racks are very rugged if designed properly.
