kin_lau
Has anyone use the Sigma 20-40/2.8 on an EOS DSLR? What did you like/dislike about it? How did you find the focus speed? This lense is available quite cheaply (less than USD$250-) from a few sources right now, and seems to be a good 35-70/2.8 equiv. I already have faster primes, wider & longer zooms, so I'm mainly interested in this as a fast, cheap and sharp, short indoor zoom. No need to reply with general comments about Sigma's or 3rd party lenses etc. I'm just looking for user comments. I've already search for info about this lense and read the reviews and comments, but the vast majority were on full-frame usage and quite favourable. I'd just like to hear some comments from a 1.6 crop DSLR standpoint.

kin_lau
Yes, the FM review page is one of only a very few that mentioned it with DSLR's, and mostly from last year or earlier.
raymond_lam2
I use it on my 350d and would like to make these following points: The lens is well built, with excellent sharpness anything above f4. It has a professional rugged feel to it, much better than many canon lens. When i bought this i thought that this would an be ideal general use lens for me covering wide to standard length. i didnt factor in the crop for digital slr's. I dont think it is as sharp as my ef50 1.8 mk1, but i guess not many are. The lens can be used well internally as long as you know what you are doing with it. Im about to buy a 1d so will probably benefit from keeping this lens. the focusing is good in daylight but struggles a little indoors. Maybe not as good as the ef16-35 but at a quater of the price this is to be expected. If you have wider lens and longer zooms than i can genuinely reccommend this lens but do make sure you have a battery grip if you happen to own a rebel xt
kin_lau
Got it now. It's huge, but still a bit smaller than my Sigma 15-30. Same filter size tho - 82mm. Focus indoors is okay with my 20D. It certainly is a much better fit with the 20D than the much smaller Rebel XT. Sharpness looks good so far, even wide open. Thanks for everyone's comments.
