evilsivan
I would also love to know when they'll be available. I don't think I'll ever be able to afford the Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VRI or II, so bring on the sigma!
danield
It's available for preorder in UK at www.warehouseexpress.com (here) - for £650 which seems pretty steep IMHO. Hopefully the price will go down after it spends some time on the market, but still... it better be good
maryanne_morrow
Do you think this lens will be superior to the tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 with VC?
ed_lemko
that's 994 us dollars. ..... if that's what it will be in the us, i think i'll rethink passing on th tamron 17-50vc....
andreas_manessinger
It better had to be much better than the Tamron. How else could they justify a price almost twice as much? The current cheapest price for the Tamron 17-50/2.8 VC in Austria is 473,94€, the Sigma is listed at Amazon for 805,21€. Sure, the Sigma will go down after release, but it will still be at least a third higher than the Tammy.
Seemingly Sigma are positioning their new lenses at a price point between Tamron and Nikon, sometimes (like with the 50/1.4) also at Nikon level or even above. They seem to be quite confident, and taking the 50/1.4 as an indicator, I'd say quite rightly so. There is no price for the 85/1.4 yet, but the new, stabilized 50-500 is already listed at 1914,45€. That's also not exactly a cheap consumer lens :)

mike_earussi1
Sigma's German web site lists it for 479 Euros:
http://www.sigma-foto.de/cms/front_content.php?client=1&lang=1&idcat=31&idart=207

kenray
I have not read anything about this lense but what is the great difference between it and the 18-50 Sigma other than the OS. I well understand the desirability for OS for long lenses but is it THAT much of an advantage on the short lengths.
danield

Sigma's German web site lists it for 479 Euros...

That's not the same version we are talking about. The 17-50 f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM appears further down the list at 800 Euros, which is consistent with the price in UK
http://www.sigma-foto.de/cms/front_content.php?client=1〈=1&idcat=31&idart=400

philippe_monnoyer1
Anybody knows where a review can be seen for that lens 17-50 mm f/2.8 ? I can buy it with a Nikon D7000 as a kit, but I hate to do it without a minimum of testing done.
philippe_monnoyer1
Let me refine my question. I found the review on PhotoZone, but under Canon lenses: http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/531-sigma1750f28os?start=1
It was tested on a Canon 50D (sensor = 22.3x14.9 mm). The extreme edges were a bit soft on the Canon. The Nikon D7000 has a 23.6x15.6 mm sensor. As the sensor is bigger, I fear the edges will be even worse. Anybody checked that ? Thanks !
