mag_miksch
I have heard different things about the autofocus speed of this lens, some sayits slow. Can someone confirm this or is it suited for shooting sports withD300, not mainly but occasionally. Is there a lens with similar specs and pricewith faster autofocus? Thanks and Kind Regards Martin
mark_chappell
It's a macro lens and according to the review on PhotoZone, it's not a focusing speed demon. If by 'similar specs' you mean 'has macro capability', I think you're out of luck if you want rapid focusing. By their nature, macros aren't designed for fast focus. The PhotoZone review says the Sigma 150 has fairly quick focus for a macro lens, but it isn't very fast.
alan_olander1664878205
As Mark said, the Sigma 150mm/2.8 is a macro lens and not designed for your purpose. A Nikon 180mm/2.8 would probably work well for you if you're looking for something similar in focal length and price.
mag_miksch
Thanks for your answers, The Nikkor 180 AF was my first thought, I have owned an AI-s long time ago and it was an very good lens. But what I saw from the MTF data the newer AF doesnt have the sharpness of the MF. Macro isnt necessary, i just found the 150 Sigma because its very sharp. alan_olander1664878205
Of all the reviews I've looked at, the Nikon 180mm/2.8 AF is one of the sharpest lenses available. Check here: http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2.html
mag_miksch
I am not sure about the 180, whats about the zoom, (I dont like zooms but it seems to be a good performer): Nikon AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 IF-ED. Regards Martin
