pete_appleby
I've been shooting quite a bit of tennis lately, and have been using a D200 and Sigma 50-150mm 2.8, plus monopod. I've been quite close to the action and don't usually need anymore reach than the 150mm. Ocassionally I'll also use a x2 convertor if I do need more reach, and wondered about minimum shutter speeds people recommended when using convertors. If the rule is at least focal length without a convertor, would I need to double the shutter speed when using the X2? I tend to shoot as fast as the light will allow, so this is always way faster than 1/200th. I just wondered how people changed their setup when using convertors? Many thanks Pete
joseph_wisniewski
Actually, it's focal length * converter * crop factor. So 1/450 for your setup. But that's a rule for hand holding, you can pull a couple of stops off for the monopod. Of course, for meaningful tennis, you sort of need to be up aroudn 1/300, so you can't really pull those stops off, after all. I don't change the "setup", I just use a 300mm f2.8 when reach is required ;)
pete_appleby
Thanks Joseph. I tried again recently and luckily the sun allowed me to get much higher speeds than 1/450. I managed anything from 1/500th to 1/2000 and the pi9cs came out great. Thanks for the tip though.
