adam zyto
How can I tell how many shots a D200 has taken? I have an opportunity to purchase a used one and want to make sure it's been lightly used. Thanks.
mjt
this question has been asked, oddly enough, probably 3-4 times in the last month ... why not try a search?

jack_landry
Download this free utility: http://drchung.new21.net/previewextractor/ Open the last shot taken with the camera and you will have what you want.
studor13
Jack, thank you for that link. I tried a couple of times using Opanda for my D70 and couldn't figure it out. Previewextractor told me all I wanted to know and in an instant!

ShunCheung
You can get that from PhotoShop also. Click on File on the top left corner. From that drop-down menu, click on File Info (not shown here) and you'll get a pop-up window with information for that image file. Click on Advanced (last item) and then expand the 4th item from the "tree." Aux Image Number is the shutter actuation count for that particular image. The attached image is from CS3.<div></div>

peter k
Happy New Year to all. I am trying to have the shutter actuations shown for my D200 firmware #2. I have ALL the programs listed in this thread and read all the posts carefully. I have CS only not CS2. None of the programs show the shutter actuations. I did exactly as Shun outlined but no go. Does anyone have an idea. My Hard drives are fat 32 operating system is XP SP2. Regards Peter
ShunCheung
Opanda only works with JPEG files, not NEF. I just shot one image on my D200 using RAW + JPEG basic. Opanda reads the EXIF data from the JPEG without any problems. I also opened both NEF and JPEG files with Adobe Bridge. From Bridge, you can click on "File" also and display the "Advanced" data as I showed above. I got the actuation count from both the NEF file and JPEG file. neil_parker
Thanks for that tip! Works with CS2 for mac I can confirm. I now know my D200 has only 7500+, I need to shoot more!

peter k
Thank you Shun for the reply, but the answer is no go. arthuryeo
Also, Nikon has also stated that the odometer can always be reset to zero by any firmeware/software released by Nikon. So, counting on the validity of this number is somewhat futile to me.

harry_spooner
Shun, Good info on this thread. The JPEG image I shot on my D3 does not look like the paste from above on CS3. I checked each of the drop downs, but could not find any "aux" functions. See info below:
ShunCheung
Harry, could you try to initiate "File" from Adobe Bridge instead of PhotoShop? Somehow that seems to make a different to some JPEGs. This feature has been around for a number of years. I think I first used it in CS, but it may have been around way before even that. I received a JPEG file from Peter Schulze, but that doesn't seem to be a JPEG file straight from the camera. If it is a JPEG generated by an editor, some of the EXIF data may have been stripped off. Please make sure you use a JPEG file straight from the camera. As Arthur points out, the actuation count could be modified just like a car's odometer could be tempered with. However, if you are the original owner, it should be quite accurate. I am not aware of any better counter, anyway.
kpataky
Peter, make sure you are using the Opanda IExif v 2.26 application that installs rather than the Opanda PowerExif v 1.2 Professional Trial. Each installs when you download from their site. The former application provides more detail on the image - including the "Total Number of Shutter Releases for Camera" near the bottom. harry_spooner
Shun, That was the trick. For what it is worth, the original image was right out of the camera. Launching file info from Bridge showed the extra "aux" options as seen below. BTW... Thanks for all that you contribute to this forum. peter k
Hi all, thanks to suggestion from Shun I have taken another picture and straight from the Camera I do get the shutter count using Opanda. So, in my case, the data is there but must not have been edited using Photoshop CS. Thank you to all who have responded with suggestions.
